Word of the Day: Andragogy

AN-dra-gah-jee

Part of speech: noun

Origin: Greek, 1920s

  1. The method and practice of teaching adult learners.
  2. Adult education.

Examples of Andragogy:

“I prefer andragogy; I work better with adults than with kids.”

For the most part, I love teaching and I especially love teaching those adults who enjoy learning. There are several though, that “just want it to work” and have absolutely no desire to learn how to do it themselves. There are others, who forget to breathe and remind themselves that it’s been a while since they’ve been in school, and if you don’t put the work in, and practice, you won’t “get it”.

However, for those that want to learn… I am more than happy to teach them how to do it themselves. I live for the lightbulb moment, when it all comes together and they get it. And that’s why I love teaching adult learners.
