How to Keep Your Website in Top Condition

Bonnie’s Rules

  • Optimize all photos for faster upload and viewing
    • Photoshop can do this
    • WP Optimizer can be set to automatic
    • Canva can export your photo to .png
  • Clear your Cache regularly
    • Go to Safari > History > Clear All Time
    • Go to Chrome > Settings or Options > Delete Browsing History > All Time
    • In Firefox > Click on 3 little lines in the upper right corner > Settings > Privacy > Delete Cache
    • In Edge > Click on 3 little dots in the upper right corner > Settings > Advanced > Privacy > All Time
  • Photos
    • Turn off the ‘Live’ Photo Setting (will save you a huge amount of memory)
    • Don’t use the RAW setting on iPhone
    • Photos MUST BE Optimized for the Web and saved as either a .jpeg or a .png
    • Use Canva or Instagram to crop pictures to be all the same size and the same ratio
  • Navigation Tabs
    • Make sure Navigation Tabs (Home, About, Contact) are visible on All Pages so that users can find their way back and don’t have to get lost using the browser back button
    • Review your Navigation – remove any menu items that no longer fit the goals of your site
  • Plugins
    • Deactivate and Delete the Plugins that you no longer need or use
    • Update the Plugins that you are keeping
  • Read through and Update your About page
  • Test your Opt-Ins and Contact page forms
  • Backup the entire site on an external drive
